A lot of people have been talking about Sonic Megamix for quite a while. The rest of Team Megamix and I love all of the fanfare and publicity such as demonstration videos, let’s-plays, review articles, and even just spreading the word through forum posts and such, so don’t get me wrong as I continue- we are proud of and honored by all of this. There’s just a recurring theme that has frustrated me for some time now-
Sonic Megamix is not Sonic CD!
To people who just don’t know how any of this has developed or how it works in general, sure, I guess I can see where this idea can come from. Sonic Megamix is being developed for SegaCD, and Sonic has the peel-out move, so it must be “a Sonic CD hack”, and it’s as simple as that, right?
Simply put, Sonic Megamix is built from Sonic the Hedgehog (or “Sonic 1”, although technically the game title does not contain a “1”) and was transitioned in full to SegaCD after-the-fact; it was not built from Sonic CD. This misinformation has appeared with increasing frequency, and because of its implications, I can’t help but become incrementally annoyed by its spreading every time I see it. If you’re wondering why exactly that is, I will explain (in greater detail than I had imagined I would…)-
